Cairo- Morocco has managed to defeat extremism thanks to its legacy of moderate religious thought, spiritual unity and openness on its regional environment, the Egyptian daily "Al-Ahram" wrote Saturday.
Under the title "Morocco's strategy, moderation to confront extremism," the newspaper noted the pivotal role of the institution of the Commander of the Faithful as a spiritual authority in spreading moderate Islam and a bulwark against extremism.
In the same vein, the daily said that Sufism has, in its various forms, played a role of spiritual education, adding that this practice has always apprehended religion in its moderate worship and spiritual dimensions.
The paper also highlighted the importance given by Morocco to upgrade the religious field so as to preserve its spiritual security, keep pace with social changes and take up present and future challenges, through a multifaceted strategy against extremism forces.
