Six Moroccan Law Enforcement Officers in Court For Torturing Suspect to Death

Rabat - Six members of the Royal Gendarmerie were put into custody following the death of a person during a total sanitation campaign in Oued Amlil in Taza, about 110 kilometers from Fez.

The head of the Royal Gendarmerie in Oued Amlil, Taza, along with five other members under his command, allegedly caused the death of an arrested person.

“The act was committed during a sanitation campaign on September 1, 2015,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement relayed by the Maghreb Arab Press (MAP).

The same source said that the victim was tortured to death.

"The deceased, who was brutally mistreated by gendarmes, died on the way to the hospital of Taza after hemorrhagic shock," the source added.

The same source added that the six members of Royal Gendarmerie will be brought before the court at a later date.
