Marrakech - The Greek Coast Guard have recovered 20 bodies on Sunday following the sinking of a small boat carrying immigrants to the Greek island of Lesbos in the Aegean Sea.
According to a spokeswoman for the Coast Guard, the bodies of 20 migrants have been recovered from the water, while search and rescue operations for other missing persons continues. "Immigrants told rescuers that 46 people were on board the boat," he added.
Between 3,500 and 4,000 refugees travel from Turkey to Greece every day, according to the Greek Prime Minister.
It is believed that a five-year-old girl was among those who drowned on Saturday. It is also feared that 13 others have drowned after the sinking of the boat, carrying them off the Greek island of Lesbos, which is an arrival point favored by refugees, because it opens the way to the Balkans and on to northern Europe.
