New York - Republican U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump continues with his wave of discrimination and comments full of hatred against Muslims.
His latest Islamophobic remark on Monday was to call for banning Muslims from entering the United States, until the government can “figure out what is going on”.
Following the Paris attacks last month and the shooting in San Bernardino, Trump has jumped on the anti-Muslim wagon, stereotyping Muslims and associating extremism and terrorism with Islam.
“Without looking at the various polling data, it is obvious to anybody the hatred is beyond comprehension. Where this hatred comes from and why we will have to determine,” Trump said.
“Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in jihad, and have not sense of reason or respect for human life,” he added.
The billionaire’s remarks have shocked U.S. experts on immigration law and policy who point out that there is no “historical precedent for denying immigration based on religion”.
“This is just so antithetical to the history of the United States. It’s unbelievable to have a religious test for admission into the country,” Nancy Morawetz, a clinical law professor at New York University said.
“The Donald” has maintained the lead in the GOP presidential nomination since the beginning of his campaign with controversial comments that have stirred uproar among Latinos when he labeled Mexicans as “rapists and drug addicts.” To obtain more votes in the upcoming republican nomination, he is now labeling Muslims as terrorists.
Trump’s statement adds to his xenophobic and Hitler-like remarks when he said last month that the US government should impose special ID cards on all Muslims living in the US.
From mocking reporters, to kicking others out of his rallies, to using politically incorrect stereotypes left and right, Trump continues to show the ugly face of US politics.
