Rabat - Moroccan entrepreneur Rahma El Mouden is the founder & CEO of MAS Dienstverleners.
She started as a cleaning woman in the Netherlands, and now she owns the Specialist Cleaner company with a revenue of € 8 million ($11 million) and over 400 Dutch employees.
Despite the racism against Moroccans in the Netherlands - just a few days ago the Freedom Party leader said he wanted fewer Moroccans in the country- Rahma Mouden has proven that Moroccans living in the Netherlands can also create jobs and support Dutch youth and the country’s economy.
Rahma el Mouden arrived in the Netherlands in 1975 at the age of 16. In 1997, after working several years as a cleaning woman, she started her own company, r Multicultural Amsterdam Cleaners (MAS). With 75 workers, mostly immigrants, it generated $1 million in sales in 1999.
Rahma aims to support youth searching for work, and encourage them to leave working in the local supermarkets. “I've tried it already “Yet, many of them were not serious. They either skip or quit work.” Rahma said. “So I had to fire many of them,” she added according to Hespress.
Rahma is being looked at as a model for the other Moroccan and Dutch business women; her experience is an example of low-skill businesses which can turn into successful companies.
She attributes her success to her determination to start her own business." The situation for women in companies angers me. Women should show more courage. They must work to change this situation,” she noted
"A woman has to be financially independent, to earn her money on her own, and if she chooses to remain with a partner, it should be just because she loves him not because of her need of his financial support,” she was quoted by Hespress as saying.
